Stella Rodrigues

Stella Rodrigues was born in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, where she started to play the violin at the age of seven, under the guidance of international viola virtuoso Karin Dolman. At twelve she exchanged the violin for viola and started studying at the Conservatorium of Rotterdam with Czech musician and conductor Josef Schebal, and in 1998 Stella began her studies at the School Music at the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg, where she also studied the violin with Chris Duindam.

In 2000 Stella moved to Ireland a nd has since finished both a Bachelor of Music and a Masters degree in Ethnomusicology at University College Cork. She has established herself as an accomplished traditional Irish and European violin player as well as a performer of European classical music on the violin and viola. Stella is currently active performing and arranging classical and traditional music in different formations as well as tutoring the Javanese Gamelan at Cork University.
