Locus

The rising standard of music…

The Locus string quartet was formed in 2003 by the Dublin-born Double bass player Fiachra O Cinnéide. In contrast to the commercialism of many contemporary string quartets, Locus is committed to a highly distinctive approach to classical playing, where each player retain complete creative individuality while combining their talents to offer a fresh and original approach. Also, it is the inclusion of the Double Bass which lends the Locus String quartet its uniqueness and versatility unmatched by the conventional quartet.

Locus feature a variety of classical styles in their performances which range from Baroque and early classical to more exotic Latin American rhythms and sonorities, resulting in a unique and exciting stylistic amalgam.

Fiachra O Cinnéide studied music in Dublin and holds an Honours Batchelor of Music Degree from the Cork School of Music (constituent of the CIT) He has performed both in Ireland and on the continent. Recent engagements include an appearance in Bremen.

Following the success of last season's nationwide concerts, the LSQ are working on a new programme for this winter '05/'06.
